Slow Dancing in a Burning Room – The Story

Watch it here: Slow Dancing in a Burning Room ACOUSTIC LIVE COVER !!

THE STORY BEHIND MY COVER:

I’ve never been in a romantic relationship, so how could I relate to the emotional pain that John Mayer shares in “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room”? I could’ve faked it, I guess.. I’m an actress. But then people wouldn’t relate/engage. It’d lack sincerity, vulnerability.

As I recorded my version of this song, I prayed for God to help me understand and convey a level of hurt similar to John’s. What was revealed to me was powerful. I hadn’t experienced the demise of a romantic relationship, but I’d fallen in love with other things in this world that would fail to satisfy eternally; namely, my career.

For 11 years, I’d romanced my career by developing my craft, building my resume, and working consistently (without moral compromise, of course). But as I made my career my ULTIMATE thing, I sacrificed other important areas of my life, including relationships with family/friends/God, my health, and my education. Making any good thing an ULTIMATE thing will ALWAYS lead to destruction… it’s misguided worship. Worship intended to be directed toward the  Source/Giver of the good thing. And, I can’t take any of my success to the grave anyway. Not my career. Not fame. Not money. Nothing. It’s like slow dancing in a burning room.

For this reason, I sang this song as I simultaneously chose to step back from my job, enroll in college, and begin reinvesting in the people around me. Performing is something I love doing and sharing, but it must remain in its proper place.

I hope you can feel the emotion in my cover and relate to it in your own way.

John Mayer is an amazing lyricist. What a concept: “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room”.. Mmm.

All my best,

Alyson

New Cover Song + COLLEGE!!

Hey y’all. Recently I posted a cover of Selena’s Love You Like A Love Song (CLICK HERE TO WATCH). In just a few days, it had over 100,000 hits. I’ve never seen anything like that! Because you’ve been so awesome, I wanted to post my next cover. This time, I stripped down Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks”..

During these sessions, I record one vocal pass from top to bottom, and then shoot it from many angles. The footage you see is a casual video I made for fun. I hope you enjoy! Check out YouTube.com/TheRealAlysonStoner for the newest video covers and updates!

In other news, I’m proud and thankful to say I’m officially a college student. The workload is already intense, but it is such a privilege to be able to get a higher education. For those of you debating, I highly recommend pursuing your studies… education rarely does anything other than create opportunities and help people grow.

And finally, thank you dearly for checking out my EP Beat The System. It’s available on iTunes now, if you haven’t already seen it. The support is appreciated but the most important thing is that YOU are blessed because of the music.. I hope I can give ya something special. Check it out here: http://bit.ly/ncNraiescort ankara
